Almost half a billion people worldwide have a speech disability, yet only 3% of them have access to technology that could help them connect and interact with the world around them.

Imagine what the world could look like if each of these people were empowered? To contribute their voices. To share their ideas. To express their full potential. We could have artists, scientists, creators, engineers, change-makers, philosophers, and more among us with undiscovered talents that could revolutionise society.

This has been the mission of Santa Barbara, California-based company Cognixion since its founding in 2014 — to unlock self-expression, connection, and inclusion for those who may otherwise be marginalised.

Andreas Forsland, Founder & CEO of Cognixion, joined Simeone Scaramozzino, Chapter Leader of Transformative Technology Milan, in a virtual event to discuss how Cognixion is developing affordable and accessible technology and getting it into the hands of more people who need it.

In a virtual event, Simeone Scaramozzino, Chapter Leader of TransTech Milan, discusses circadian health with Dr. Steve Lockley, Neuroscientist and Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School and renowned expert in circadian rhythms, and Mickey Beyer-Clausen, serial entrepreneur and Co-Founder & CEO of Timeshifter, an app designed to eliminate jet lag based on timed light exposure and used by astronauts and elite athletes.

Steve W. Lockley, Ph.D., is a Neuroscientist in the Division of Sleep and Circadian Disorders at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Sleep Medicine, Harvard Medical School, and an Advisor to NASA Mission Control and astronauts. With over 25 years of research experience in circadian rhythms and sleep, Dr. Lockley is a specialist in ways to reset the circadian clock, particularly the role of light and melatonin, and on the impact of circadian disruption on performance and health. Mickey Beyer-Clausen is a Danish-born, New York-based serial entrepreneur, and the Co-founder and CEO of Timeshifter. Timeshifter is a circadian science company solving large, unaddressed problems caused by mistiming of our circadian clock. Before Timeshifter, Beyer-Clausen co-founded and served as CEO at Mental Workout, who pioneered a new category of apps, including the first mindfulness and sleep apps.
